FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international organization preparing young people for the future through robotics. FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) introduces STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to children ages 4-16 through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program using LEGO® technology, helping today’s students, families, and educators build a better future together.
Alberton is starting an FLL Challenge team which is geared towards grades 4-6.
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. They also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.
Alberton is also starting an FLL Explore team which is geared towards grades 2-4.
In Explore, teams of students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKETM Essential.
Montana is seeing a lot of growth and new teams joining FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL). There are now nearly 100 FLL Challenge teams in Montana! Four qualifier events happen around the state (Billings, Helena, Kalispell, & Missoula), tentatively scheduled for January 24th, though teams will attend just one. The top 36 teams from across the state will compete at the State Championship in Bozeman on February 7th, 2026.

FIRST® LEGO® League guides youth through STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning and exploration at an early age. Friendly competition is at the heart of the Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-14 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKETM Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. In UNEARTHEDTM, children will be exploring the theme and ideas, creating solutions, testing them, iterating and changing them, and then sharing what they’ve learned with others.
